What do I need to bring to the D4 medical?

Your glasses or contact lenses if you wear them as well as your optician prescription. You will be examined without contact lenses first and then asked to put them in so make sure you are prepared.
Your list of regular medications
A small urine sample
What does the D4 eye test involve?
If you wear glasses or contact lenses, you will be tested without these first. You will then be asked to put them on and retested.
The level of vision required is slightly more than for driving a car, so if you are in any doubt, we suggest that you visit the optician beforehand to arrange glasses or update your prescription.
You will also be asked if you have any problems with night vision or glare.
What if I have high blood pressure?
Don't worry if you have been diagnosed with high blood pressure. As long as you have started treatment and you blood pressure has been controlled to below 180/100mmHg, you will pass the medical.
We strongly suggest that you take your medication at least 1 hour before the examination and do not drink any tea, coffee or energy drinks prior to examination as these can cause your blood pressure to shoot up.
What do you test the urine for?
The urine sample is tested for signs of diabetes. The DVLA do not ask for a drugs or alcohol test however you will not pass the medical if you have a history of drug or alcohol misuse in the last 12 months or drug or alcohol dependence in the last 3 years.
I have another medical condition. Where can I find out if I am eligible to pass the D4 medical?
